GCstar is a free open source application for managing your collections. Detailed information on each item can be automatically retrieved from the internet and you can store additional data, such as the location or who you've lent it to. You may also search and filter your collection by many criteria.

GCstar is delivered under the terms of the GNU General Public License It can be used on any operating systems on which gtk2-perl is available. It has primarily been tested on GNU/Linux systems (used to develop it) but also on Microsoft Windows.

Current version is 1.4.3. A mailing list lets you know when new versions are published. You may subscribe to it on the GCstar-release mailing list information page.

This version is also fully or partly translated in these languages: Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Czech, Dutch, English, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian.

There is some documentation for translators that explains how new languages could be added or existing ones, completed.

07 May 2009: Bugs with Ubuntu 9.04

Some users reported a problem when using GCstar 1.4.3 with Ubuntu 9.04. The application crashes when trying to change manually the image associated to an item in a collection. Just hovering the mouse on that image could also lead to that problem.

There is a fix that can be used before the new version is available. More information in that post:

14 October 2008: New version of the Windows installer for 1.4.3

There was a bug in the Windows version that could prevent it from launching on some systems. The installation program has been updated. So please download it again if you have some issues. Here is the direct link to it:

13 October 2008: GCweb 1.0-beta1 is out

GCweb is a web interface created by jojotux to display the content of your collection generated thanks to GCstar in a web browser. This requires a web server with PHP5, but you will have then some features such as searching, sorting, filtering,...

For the moment, it is only available in french. But I am quite sure that translators (and any kind of contributors) are welcome. You will find more information in this topic:

26 July 2008: Test script updated to use Subversion

There is a script you can use to test any version of GCstar without installing it. You can also use it to test development version. Its name is testgcstar. It can be found on this page, with more information about it:

If you already are using it, please download it again as GCstar's source code has been migrated from CVS to Subversion. Then you need the new script to get the development snapshots.

10 May 2008: New installer for Windows' users

The new Windows version announced here has now a real installer. I created one for the current CVS version. So you should not use it with your actual collections as it can be unstable. You can download it here:

As a reminder, users of other operating systems can also try the future versions using instructions to test beta or CVS versions.

23 April 2008: Greek translation added
