Current version

Current version is 1.4.1. A mailing list lets you know when new versions are published. You may subscribe to it on the GCstar-release mailing list information page.

GCstar 1.4.1 manages these collections:

• Movies
• Video games
• Books
• Music
• Numismatic
• Wines
• Board games
• Comic books
• TV shows episodes
• User defined collections

This version is also fully or partly translated in these languages: Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Czech, English, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian.

There is some documentation for translators that explains how new languages could be added or existing ones, completed.

20 July 2008: Version 1.4.1 released

Here are the main changes contained in this version.

• New plugin to import collections from MyMovies done by Rob Maas.
• Missing translations added for Greek and Polish.
• Music collections were corrupted.
• Export plugins had problems with pictures without suffixes.
• Option to fetch big pictures from websites was hidden on Windows systems.
• Bug fixed in image mode when updating an item and filtering.

29 May 2008: Version 1.4.0 released

Here are the main changes contained in this version.

• Default models can be modified through the graphical user interface to add some user-defined fields
• Greek, Hungarian and Ukrainian translations added
• New default models to manage comic books and episodes of TV shows
• User can choose what controls are shown in the toolbar and their order
• User can save an advanced search or the current one to create a filter
• New plugins to fetch information from websites
• Interface improvements

10 May 2008: New installer for Windows' users

The new Windows version announced here has now a real installer. I created one for the current CVS version. So you should not use it with your actual collections as it can be unstable. You can download it here:

Do not hesitate to report any problem with it.

As a reminder, users of other operating systems can also try the future versions using instructions to test beta or CVS versions.

23 April 2008: Greek translation added

Thanks to Dimitri Glentadakis, Greek translation has been added. It is in CVS version. But it is also available through updates for 1.3.2 version.

15 February 2008: Hungarian translation added

Thanks to Takács László Krisztián, Hungarian translation has been added. It is in CVS version. But it is also available through updates for 1.3.2 version.

05 February 2008: New installer for Windows systems - Testers needed

I just created a new installer for Windows systems. Actually, it is not a real installer, but just an archive containing everything. That means all of the dependencies that GCstar needs to run, including Perl and Gtk2. You just have to download this file :

Just extract this archive somewhere on your disk, and then launch gcstar.bat that is in bin subdirectory. Do not hesitate to report any problem in this topic. If it doesn't work for you, it would be nice if you could try to launch gcstar.bat from a console and copy here the error reported. Also please try to test this version on some Windows machines where GCstar has never been installed before to be sure there is none of the dependencies.

If everything is OK, there will be then an installer that will use this version. It will also possible to put GCstar on a USB key and uses it everywhere with no installation.

03 February 2008: Ukrainian translation added

Thanks to Ailandar, Ukrainian translation has been added. It is in CVS version. But it is also available through updates for 1.3.2 version.

• Galician translation added
• New plugin to fetch information from Discogs (Music - EN)
• New template for HTML export: Float (Movies)
• Rating is fetched from IMDb (Movies - EN)
• Empty fields are not fetched

01 January 2008: Happy new year

GCstar's development team wish you all a happy new year with a lot of new items in your collections ;)

The development was quite stopped during the holidays. But it will continue during 2008 as before.

01 January 2008: Galician translation added

Thanks to Daniel Espiñeira, Galician translation has been added. It is in CVS version. But it is also available through updates for 1.3.1 version.

• Bug fixed when modifying picture from a window
• Read field is initialized to 'not read' for books
• Removing many items in picture mode sometimes failed
• XML export plugin fixed

18 November 2007: Version 1.3.0 released

Here are the main changes contained in this version.

• Multiple selection in list to modify or delete many items.
• Multiple selection in results of a fetching query. This will insert all the items in the current collection.
• Picture mode for list has been improved. There are also some visual effects such as reflection.
• Board games collections.
• Items could be tagged with keywords.
• Spelling checker for long text fields.
• Date format could be changed.

14 November 2007: Problems on GCstar's website

There have been a problem with the hosting for GCstar, provided by OVH. The website online for the moment is an old version from April 2007. I am restoring everything, but this will take some time. Sorry for the inconvenience.

04 December 2006: GCstar ranked 2^nd during Les trophées du libre

GCstar got the 2^nd place in Games / Multimedia category during the 3^rd round of Les trophées du libre.
